By 5-6 years old, finger’s muscles are well developed and strong enough to make a child hold a pencil correctly. Before the age of 5, your child uses all his fingers to grip a pencil, this is called “an immature grip”. Holding a pen depends on how steady the arm and the shoulder arm muscles are. If you child makes a lot of motor activities such as climbing, pushing, playing puzzle he will grasp a pencil easier and quicker than other kids.
Don’t push your child to hold the pencil or color correctly, when he is ready he will do it alone.
